Diverse Abilities Plus is an independent, not for profit organisation working together with families to help meet the needs of local people, of all ages with physical and learning difficulties.

  • Supported Living

    Within there are currently 30 plus people being supported in 17 different locations. Many of these receive support right around the clock. At present, funding for services is received from a number of different streams; from individuals and from local authorities.

  • Barnabas Day Opportunities

    Barnabas is a lively, sociable and well-equipped day opportunity setting for up to 30 with disabilities who want to meet and make new friends try new skills or develop existing ones, enabling individuals to reach their full potential and enjoy a wide range of opportunities and

  • Shapes Domiciliary Care

    A range of sensory approaches adopted by experienced and innovative staff ensures pupils are motivated to build and extend their knowledge, skills and understanding grow in confidence and develop independence skills celebrate individual and group achievements prepare for time when they

  • Smither's Short Breaks

    Smithers opened in 1995 as a short-stay residential home providing short breaks. It has fully equipped overnight bedrooms for up to 4 children or young people, with complex physical and/or learning difficulties; often with associated health issues.

    Nationally recognised as specialists in the provision of sensory and physical special needs. Langside, established in 1959, is an independent, non-maintained, day special school for up to 32 children who have a statement of SEN (special educational needs) identifying learning and

Diverse Abilities Plus want to be lifetime partners to individuals and their families, empowering them and offering the best level of assistance, support and education. Diverse Abilities Plus is an independent, not for profit organisation working together with families to help meet the needs of local people, of all ages with physical and learning difficulties. We are dedicated to supporting their needs today and the needs that they will have tomorrow whilst enabling them to experience a lifetime of opportunities and challenges.

We endeavour to achieve this through tailor-made programmes of support, developed according to the needs of the individual through every transitional stage of their lives and personal development. Diverse Abilities Plus believes in the unique dignity of each person and their right whenever possible to make their own choices about their life and work situation and the activities in which they engage.
