The digital revolution in photography has changed the way that companies buy photography and I believe that it has been to the detriment of the standard of images that are out there. I am the first to admit that on a beautiful day, with the sun over their shoulder and stood in front of something beautiful, the average amateur photographer, with a moderately priced compact camera, will take a shot that is going to be almost indistinguishable from the shot that I would take with all of my professional gear.
The difference that a professional brings to the party is that I will get the shot and make it look good, regardless of the prevailing conditions. My understanding of viewpoint, lighting and composition together with an ability to interact with the subject - be it a building or a person - will produce a result that will enhance your image in the marketplace and provide memorable pictures for all to enjoy.
Detailed description:
An early interest in photography, with a darkroom in the attic of my parent's house, led to a 2-year course at Berkshire College of Art. BCA is now a university and if I had been born 30 years later, I would have ended up with a degree of some kind rather than the City & Guilds and Institute of Professional Photography qualifications that I obtained as a result.
Jobs followed as an in-house photographer for a large engineering company, a general practice photographer in Reading and a photographic printer working for the major advertising agencies in London.
I set up my own business in 1975 in the New City of Milton Keynes - a very good place to start and am proud of the fact that I saw and photographed the very early years of its development.
I am now based on the borders of Cambridgeshire, Norhamptonshire and Bedfordshire working in a (beautifully refurbished) pig sty! This puts me in a central location for travel throughout the UK and a reasonably convenient location for the airports.
