Ocean Diver-

This course provides you with the essential knowledge and skills needed to prepare you for open water diving. Learning to dive is all about learning to use your equipment properly and safely. The Ocean Diver training course concentrates on preparing you for this in the safety of the swimming pool and then introducing you to open water in a controlled and safe manner. This also gives you the opportunity to practicesafety skills in the company of a qualified instructor or experienced diver.

Detailed description:

The evening starts at approximately 8.15 with a brief meeting, pool training is from 8.30 to 9.30. There are currently 35 members in Del-Mar, ranging from 13 to their mid 60s the average age being mid thirties. Levels of diving qualification vary from trainee ocean divers to advanced divers. At the moment Del-Mar has 4 open water instructors who are helped by 3 assistant club instructors.

Dive trips cater for all levels of experience. Recent trips have seen us in Cornwall, the Red Sea, Plymouth, West of Scotland and of course, good old Stoney Cove where the majority of the open water training is carried out.

Belonging to a branch, as well as providing a good level of training set at an individual's pace, also provides lots of dive buddies.

The BSAC has been training people to dive since the early fifties. During this time the Del-Mar Training Programme has been regularly updated and improved, to keep pace with developments in equipment and diving knowledge. The programme is designed to build confidence and self reliance, whilst keeping safety uppermost. Diving skills are taught progressively so that each new experience is built upon, step by step. Following basic training in the safety of the swimming pool, students soon complete their first open water dives to achieve Ocean Diver certification. This progression continues to Sports Diver and beyond, where open water skills and techniques are further developed and experience gained.

Sports Diver-

In Sports Diver training, the emphasis is on building a sound foundation of open water diving skills and experience through a series of structured practical lessons.
