Short profile:
Cusgarne School is in the centre of the small rural village of Cusgarne surrounded by farmland. We are situated about 6 miles from Truro and 5 miles from Redruth, Cornwall.
It is a beautiful setting in which to begin your schooling. Look out of the windows at the back of the school and you can see cows grazing!
We have children from the ages of 4 to 11 at our school and we have high expectations for everyone and ensure that each child is valued. We recognise and celebrate achievement regardless of ability.
The children at Cusgarne enjoy a wide variety of sporting activities which greatly contribute to our 'healthy living programme' along with the equipment we provide during lunchtime break through our Huff and Puff scheme.
The playground is furnished with activity markings for all ages, and we have a very popular Clatter Bridge.
Detailed description:
We have a well established buddy system which encourages maturity and responsibility with our older pupils and has a positive effect on our new children.
There are many varied opportunities for each of our children to reach their full potential. The achievements of the children are impressive across the curriculum.
The school was founded in 1877 and in 2002 major building work was completed through which we gained a hall, new entrance and reception area. Other parts of the school were refurbished and we now also have a Library and Computer Suite.
Behind the school we have a small garden with a playhouse and picnic table and our beautiful wall painting. The wall painting in the garden pictured here was based on pictures of creatures drawn by the children in Class 1. The pictures were transferred to the wall and incorporated with the background by Pam and Mick Rowe. The children helped to finish the painting of their own creature. It is stunning!
The Friends Of Cusgarne, our parents and friends association, work hard with the school to raise funds to enhance the children's learning . One of their biggest events is the joint organisation of the School/Community Fete each year in June.
At Cusgarne we place great importance in music and offer a broad range of musical activities including violin, keyboard, guitar, brass, flute, percussion and singing. Through the Extended Curriculum our Class 3 children are also learning to play the Ukulele. Our more experienced recorder players were 'Commended' in the Cornwall Music Festival and also gained a 'Distinction' when they played with The Richard Lander Recorder Players.
Keyboard lessons turn into Ensemble after school, when any children that play an instrument join in.
We also place importance in dance and drama within the curriculum and everyone one at school joins in with enthusiasm for our productions. Our latest production was The Tempest.
