Short profile:

At DeafVision we work to create welfare and opportunity for every individual who needs us - and in doing so, help provide a life which those of us who are hearing take for granted. We have around 40 qualified and experienced staff, and operate from offices in Carlisle, Barrow-in-Furness, Kendal and Dumfries.

Our skilled Social Work team provides support to those deaf people to live safely, and works tirelessly to ensure they have a lifestyle of their choice.

Our Rehabilitation and Technical Services team professionally assess individuals and ensure the security and well being of deaf people, through sound amplification devices, special door bells and visual and tactile fire alarms.

Detailed description:

Our Community Support and Care Package Service helps Deaf people with hearing loss and people with dual sensory loss achieve the maximum levels of independence, access and choice.

Our Children's Project runs the Balloon Project, working with parents and families to help them to develop the skills to communicate with a deaf child as well as reducing social isolation experienced by some deaf children.

Our Communication Support Unit provides experienced British Sign Language/English interpreter services for a range of organisations, helping with medical appointments, job interviews, and access to local services. We also provide speech to text service for hard of hearing people.

Our Deaf Awareness Training team run a range of courses and workshops for public and private sector organisations to ensure that staff understand issues related to deafness, and are able to offer an accessible service to deaf and hard of hearing people.

DeafVision has contracts with Cumbria County Council to provide specialist Social Work and Care Packages, together with Rehabilitation and Technical Equipment services.
