CSP SCOTLAND OFFICE

Updated more than 6 months ago

Short profile:

The CSP office in Scotland was set up in 1999 in response to Scottish devolution, when responsibility for devolved matters was passed to the Scottish Executive. The CSP Scotland office represents the interests of the membership in Scotland, particularly in the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood and within the various Scottish government and NHS Scotland health structures. The office aims to raise the profile and influence of physiotherapy in Scotland, help shape national policy in health and wellbeing, and support members at a local level. The office also provides employment relations services to members and assists the work of the CSP Scottish Board.

Detailed description:

The CSP is committed to promoting equality and diversity. We understand equality to be about creating a fairer society where everyone can participate and diversity to be about recognising and valuing difference. The CSP has a five year corporate strategy which contains 12 objectives. Each year the CSP produces an annual corporate plan which sets out how it will achieve these objectives. Objective five is to ensure diversity principles are integral to CSP service delivery.

The CSP Equality and Diversity Group (EDG) reports directly to Council and meets twice yearly. It draws on representation from across the Society. This includes the Black Minority Ethnic (BME) network, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) network, the Disabled Members network, stewards, managers and various CSP committees. Staff from relevant functions of the CSP also attend.

The group is co-ordinated by the CSP’s Employment Relations and Union Services (ERUS) function. The role of the EDG is to develop and promote diversity and equality within the Society. This includes monitoring and dealing with issues that affect all CSP members from entry to professional training right through to retirement, issues around CSP standards of professional practice, and issues of practice and service delivery. EDG work includes producing guidelines for staff and members, publicising equality and diversity issues, advising and influencing relevant agencies including Health Departments, developing training in equality issues, and ensuring impact assessments are carried out on all the work of the CSP.
