CROWN PROSECUTION SERVICE

CPS North East, headed by Chief Crown Prosecutor Wendy Williams, covers the police forces areas of Northumbria, Durham and Cleveland. The CPS is a champion of justice, defending your rights and serving our communities. We are committed to prosecuting the perpetrators of crime, and supporting the victims of crime.

Every year, we prosecute thousands of criminal cases through the Magistrates' and Crown Courts situated across the region. We also have specialists who's job it is to pursue the proceeds of crime, ensuring we claw back the money criminals make through their illegal activities. We have offices in Durham, Middlesbrough and Newcastle which is also where our Complex Casework Unit is based. Within our Witness Care Units, CPS staff work extremely closely with the police and Victim Support to provide information, support, assistance and advice to victims and witnesses. The work they do is often key to achieving a successful conviction.
