One of the most important points to consider when playing ice or inline hockey is that the equipment you wear is fitted correctly. Equipment that isn’t correctly fitted will inevitably lead to player injury.
There are three basic points that everyone needs to understand before they buy either new or used hockey equipment :
The equipment must fit correctly.
The equipment must be in good condition.
Detailed description:
If buying used equipment it should have been correctly maintained during its years of use.
Equipment Fitting: One of the most important aspects of buying hockey equipment is that it fits properly. Each piece needs to fit correctly and entirely cover the area
of the body that it’s supposed to protect. Never buy equipment that your child “will grow into”. Equipment that is too large will move around during play, exposing the area that it’s supposed
to be protecting. This can lead to a serious injury.
Condition of Equipment: If you’re buying new hockey equipment it stands to reason that it will be in good condition. When buying used equipment you need to make sure
it’s not cracked in any way and that all parts are structurally sound. Once you’ve bought new equipment it’s important that you check it regularly so that you can immediately catch any cracks and breaks. Some pieces of equipment can be repaired, while other pieces will need
to be replaced.
Maintenance of Equipment: Safe equipment starts with proper maintenance.
After every game and practice session, make sure to hang up the equipment so it dries thoroughly. Proper drying will lessen the amount of deterioration that can take place, maintaining the quality and structure of the equipment. Also make sure to thoroughly dry skate blades right after games and practices to reduce the amount of deterioration that can happen. Maintaining equipment correctly will not only ensure your safety but will also lengthen
its life span.
