Short profile:
The Care Quality Commission is the new health and social care regulator for England. We look at the joined up picture of health and social care. Our aim is to ensure better care for everyone in hospital, in a care home and at home. Our aim is to make sure better care is provided for everyone. To achieve this, we have two priorities.
People who use services want care that is safe and of good quality. They have a right to expect that, if a service falls below the essential standards expected, this is identified and acted on quickly. We focus on these poorer services, and especially on those that fail to improve. People want choice and control over their care, and for it to be tailored to their needs as individuals.
We aim to ensure that people have a voice in shaping their own care. And to help them make informed choices about their care, we focus on providing up-to-date, relevant and accurate information about services.
Detailed description:
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) makes sure people in England get better health and adult social care. CQC is the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England We register, and therefore license, providers of care services if they meet essential standards of quality and safety and we monitor them to make sure they continue to meet these standards. Providers of medical and clinical treatment and care given to people of all ages, including treatment given in hospitals, ambulance services, and mental health services.
We will eventually include primary care such as GP and dental practices. Providers of care services for adults in residential homes, in the community and in people’s own homes.
We focus on people who find themselves in vulnerable circumstances, including those with mental health problems, learning disabilities, physical disabilities or long-term health conditions and older people.
