Short profile:

Covance Clinical Research Unit in Leeds was established in 1986 and we're proud to carry out clinical trials for some of the world's leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. Thanks to our expertise, commitment and drive, we have a reputation for conducting high quality medical trials.

Every single member of our team has an important role to play in what we do. From friendly receptionists and recreation staff to expert nurses and physicians, we're all committed to working together to make progress in new treatments for diseases such as diabetes, epilepsy, osteoporosis and Alzheimer's disease. It's what we're passionate about and it's what drives the medical breakthroughs of tomorrow.

Detailed description:

Every year we carry out up to 30 drug trials with the help of our volunteers. Men and women, young and old, students and professionals are all paid to take part in our clinical studies on a voluntary basis.

Healthy volunteers help us determine how drugs are absorbed and the amount of time they stay in the body. By varying the dose we can study how the drug is interacting with the body, any side effects, plus what effect food has on how the drug is absorbed in the body.

These studies help us determine whether a drug shows promising results in treating the condition for which it is being developed. We use small numbers of volunteers with mild to moderate forms of these conditions, for example diabetes, asthma and high blood pressure.
