Breif History of the Corner Cupboard in Winchcombe --- The Corner Cupboard Inn was built in c.1550 as a farmhouse and it subsequently became an Inn.
There are reports of The Inn being haunted by the ghost of a 12 year old girl visitors have heard running across the Floor Boards above the Bar. At the front of the Inn is a protruding buttress and a bust of Benjamin Disraeli (Victorian Prime Minister and statesman from 1847 until his death in 1881) above the front door. In Saxon times Winchcombe was the most important town in the Cotswold region, a part of the kingdom of Mercia. The right to mint coins is a measure of the economic and administrative importance of a town, and in Saxon times there were mints in Gloucester, Bristol, Berkeley and Winchcombe.
Visit this beautiful 15th-Century Inn located in Gloucester Street, Winchcombe; it has charm aplenty with roaring fires, oak beams and all the character that its age suggests. A real ale bar complete with flag stone floors, oak paneling and Cotswold stone walls entices visitors to sample guest ales and continental lagers and a comprehensive wine list excites the connoisseur. Ingredients are sought locally from butchers, farmers, to the local Greengrocer. The Corner Cupboard Inn is a serene venue and the new 2011 menu boasts choices such as Sudeley Chicken, Roasted Lamb Shank, Slow Roast Beef and Ale Stew, Classic Sirloin Steak, Steak and Kidney Suet Pudding and much, much more.
