COOKSON & SON LTD

In 1976 Antony Cookson left school started work as an apprentice electrician, working for MIC Installations on Lenton Boulevard and attending Peoples College on Maid Marion Way to start and complete a 4 year electrical engineering course. After 2 years Antony left MIC Installations and started work with Lumelec, working in Bakers Oven and Pork Farms shops but concentrating mainly on air conditioning installations and maintenance, also servicing air conditioning units in National Westminster Banks. After 8 years with his father Antony decided to start his own business & Cookson Electrical was established in 1988. Starting off by taking on small projects from kitchen alterations to rewires, till picking up contracts in 1989/1990 for shop fitting, working away from home the length and breadth of the country in shops such as Ciro Citterio, Debenhams, Early Learning Centre and shopping centre’s such as Meadow Hall, Sheffield. In the early 1990’s the economy suffered an economic recession and Cookson Electrical suffered by losing the shop fitting contracts it had enjoyed & had to re-group and once again returned to the domestic electrical work that had provided it’s backbone in the early days.

In July 1998 Cookson Electrical joined the Electrical Contractors Association and also became member of the JIB (Joint Industries Board). In 1999 Antony Cookson & Cookson Electrical was joined by his son Adam Cookson. Adam started his electrical apprenticeship attending Loughborough College for 4 years, completing his apprenticeship in 2003. In 2005 the Part ‘P’ Building Regulations came into force and Cookson & Son Ltd soon became Part ‘P’ Registered to allow self certification of all its own work.

On the 27th July 2005 Cookson Electrical was re-named Cookson & Son Ltd. Cookson & Son Ltd now carry out work in all sectors of domestic, commercial and industrial installations and have a large customer base which is continuously growing.
