Short profile:
The ContinYou Ealing Parent Partnership Service strives to lend a helping hand to the parents and carers of children with special educational needs (SEN). We provide free advice, information and support, and assist with a variety of issues such as secondary transfer, exclusions or applying for a statement of special educational needs.
Detailed description:
The team has attended training courses to broaden our knowledge of the field of SEN and keep abreast of local and national policy developments. We recently attended training on the SEN Green Paper and how it might impact upon our service and the borough of Ealing. We have also been keeping up to date with personalisation and person-centred planning, to ensure that we involve children and young people as far as possible. We produce a service newsletter as well as several leaflets designed to make the educational process easier for parents of children with SEN.
We have put on various events and workshops in partnership with other agencies such as a transitions workshop along with Ealing Mencap. We have been involved in the developing agenda of the Lamb Enquiry, attending several policy days and training days, and getting information out to parents about events so they could attend. Our support groups involve short workshops on relevant topics and often have visiting speakers.
The rest of the time is taken up with just having a coffee and a chat. Our aim is to give parents the chance to meet others in a similar position and to come away with some useful information.
