Short profile:
Community Music Wales provides trained and experienced community tutors, equipment, advice and support to give people the opportunity to write, play, record or perform their own music.
Workshops covers the participatory music activities of CMW. We have 20 years experience of running community activities and we have expertise in planning and providing high quality music projects in a community setting. We have a large number of trained and experienced music tutors and mentors covering a wide range of musical genres and styles.
Detailed description:
CMW is Wales's leading music charity. We believe everyone should have access to music. Music can be educational, informative and empowering, but it should always be enjoyed. Creative music making is central to CMW and its objectives.
CMW can offer workshops, mentoring and community music training across Wales. We work strategically to identify need, delivering projects to give people the opportunity to write, play, record or perform their own music, using trained and experienced community tutors.
We believe strongly in working in partnership. As a charity we fundraise for individual projects, and depend on grants and donations. We can also be commissioned to manage and deliver specialised activity.
Complete Control Music (CCM) works with 14-19 year olds involved in making music. It is a mentoring scheme which gives practical advice on the music industry along with opportunities to promote and develop their work, offering recording opportunities, possible releases, gigs, support and advice.
This project works with a wide range of young people from many different musical genres, from singer songwriters to bands to DJs. CCM pairs young people with mentors who have worked professionally within the music industry to provide specialised face to face mentoring. It targets disaffected young people who may not reach their full potential through traditional learning, and through recognising and encouraging their musical talents seeks to improve their sense of worth, self confidence, communication, business skills and enable them to create a brighter future for themselves.
