CATS is the Suffolk Community Transport Operator based in Leiston and working throughout the coastal Suffolk area between the Deben and Blyth estuaries.
We provide wheelchair-accessible minibuses and car services for the general public and for community groups.
CATS is one of the largest of the 20 Community Transport Operators across Suffolk. Started in 1998 with one minibus and a small office in Leiston High Street, it has been supported by Suffolk County Council and the local community to become the organisation it is now.
Detailed description:
Our drivers are specialists in supporting frail, elderly or mobility-impaired passengers and can provide a door-to-door service at a bus-fare rate in many cases. The innovative Suffolk Links services Coastlink and the Wilford area provide pre-booked demand responsive public transport free from route and timetable restrictions.
The life-blood of the organisation, CATS team of paid staff and volunteers deliver some 35 thousand passenger journeys over a quarter of a million miles each year almost entirely within the Suffolk Coastal area. Many of the paid drivers started as volunteers, and training is given to everyone. An increasing number of unemployed volunteers have gone on to find work with other companies and not just as drivers.
