Short profile:
Clew is an innovative and creative PR agency specialising in health and science communication that delivers results.Clew knows how to make sure that our clients are prepared for issues, before
they become a crisis.
It could be identifying the ‘stinkers’ – the nasty questions that journalists ask
which can put you on the spot – and preparing strategies to handle these.
Or identifying spokespeople and running them through their paces, or
informing the media early to nip the misinformation machine in the bud.
Our strength comes from our strong media relations roots. We really
understand what drives the media and so we help our clients stay one step
ahead.
We’ll give you advice as you need it, handling the media on your behalf or
supporting you.
Detailed description:
We do everything you would expect from a PR agency - and more.
Clew believes in delivering excellence, fast and efficiently. We offer a genuine consultancy service. If it won’t work, we’ll tell you, and provide answers that will.
One of the most disputed NICE rulings in recent years and one that is still hotly
contested is the decision to restrict treatment for Alzheimer’s disease.
Clew helped Aricept, the leading anti-dementia drug, in this battle with NICE.
A three tiered approach was adapted.
Firstly the case was set out clearly and simply that quality-adjusted life years, or QALYs, are the wrong tool to measure end of life conditions.
Then publicity was given to the increased burden on carers if patients' only
treatment was taken away.
Finally the media was informed of the senselessness of waiting until patients
deteriorate before treatment is started.
The resulting publicity pushed this issue to the top of the news agenda and
the Daily Mail took on the long running battle as their own reader campaign.
