We are one of seven-district council’s in Lincolnshire, operating in a two-tier system of local government alongside Lincolnshire County Council.
We employ around 800 staff across four directorates of:
chief executive and town clerk’s, resources, housing and community services, development and environmental services.
You can see what each of these directorates is responsible for by clicking the 'council structure' document below.
Detailed description:
The city is divided into eleven wards with each represented by three councillors – giving a total of 33 council members. The council is elected by thirds on a four yearly cycle. This means that one seat in each ward is elected each year for three years out of every four.
The council operates a leader and cabinet model of governance and there are eight councillors on the executive, including the Leader and Deputy Leader.
The council’s current political composition is 16 Conservative, 16 Labour and one Liberal Democrat. This leaves the council with ‘no overall control’ although a Conservative led Executive was voted in at the council’s Annual General Meeting for 2010/11.
