Short profile:

Gorstage Green Farm is the home of Charlie’s Butter. Churned in the farmhouse using Cheshire cream from our own dairy herd, Charlie’s Butter is available at farm shops and specialist food retailers throughout Cheshire.

Dairy farming has been in the Davis family for over 60 years, now in its third generation at Gorstage Green farm. We maintain a high standard of health and welfare of the Crosshillocks herd of pedigree Holstein cows.

As well as being home to our herd of dairy cows, the farm is home to Charlie’s Butter.

Detailed description:

For a number of years, we noticed that Cheshire butter was not readily available to consumers in Cheshire and the launch of Charlie’s Butter is our response to that.

No more mass-manufactured butter in a foil wrapper! Instead, you can trace your butter from cow to milk to cream to the fantastic butter that you take home with you.

Despite the passage of many thousands of years, the essential process of making butter has remained the same.

Cream from the milk from our cows is separated into its constituent fat and the water it also contains. The water is called buttermilk.

A little bit of salt is added to help the butter keep that bit longer – No preservatives or chemicals for us!

The cream is then churned until it becomes solid. We do this by hand in the farmhouse! That solid butter is then packaged by hand into what you buy at our stockists.

The butter has a rich creamy taste to it that lingers on your taste buds for ever. This farmhouse produced food is “to die for”,as they say.
