Short profile:
The Kindergarten is purpose-built and includes separate baby and toddler areas, a kitchen and washing facilities. Babies and toddlers from 3 months to 3 years are cared for conscientiously and safely within a warm, friendly environment.
Pre-school skills prepare the children for moving into the pre-preparator department of Chapter House. Most children transfer at 3 years, but it is possible to delay entry if the child is not quite ready. Children develop at different rates, so are treated as individuals. Through active, participating play we encourage language, social and physical development.
The Kindergarten is open all year round, including school holidays, from 7.45am to 6.15pm - longer hours than most Nurseries - to cater for family needs. Children in Chapter House may also stay at school until 6pm and from 7.45am to 6pm during the holidays if they are aged 8 and under, if there is sufficient demand to make it viable.
Detailed description:
Our offices are currently open: Monday8.30am to 5.30pm; Tuesday8.30am to 8pm; Wednesday8.30am to 8pm; Thursday8.30am to 8pm; Friday8.30am to 5.30pm; Saturday9am to 3pm; We are open as normal during all School holidays but shut during the main British Public Holidays such as Christmas, Easter etc. Our pre-preparatory gives younger children their all-important introduction to the learning environment from the age of 3 years. We provide a very effective introduction to those concepts which are central to successful learning, without subjecting the children to any feeling of pressure; learning is presented to these young children in an enjoyable, easily assimilated way. Early pre-learning activities include access to sand, water, modelling materials, arts and crafts, constructional toys, books, games and puzzles. These stimulate the children’s ideas, increase their awareness of shape and space, develop their powers of communication and help them to learn how to work effectively together. As the children develop, we foster their skills in reading, language and number work to provide a secure basis for literacy and numeracy.
We give every child a thorough grounding in all the subjects covered by the National Curriculum, and at the same time we stimulate individual interests and creative ability. Children achieve an extremely high standard in their French studies. Every child is encouraged to develop his or her own potential to the full and to achieve the highest academic standard of which he or she is capable. The creative displays of pupils’ work on show in all the classrooms lead the children to experience a sense of pride in their achievements.
Chapter House School is particularly well equipped with its own Computer Centre housing Pentium computers with the very latest software packages, and the children become used to working with computers at an early stage in their school careers, both as a subject in its own right and as an aid to learning other skills.
