Short profile:
Canterbury Cathedral, Mother Church of the Anglican Communion and seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury. The Cathedral is both a holy place and part of a World Heritage Site. It is the home of a community of people who seek to make the Cathedral a place of welcome, beauty and holiness. We hope you will be inspired to visit Canterbury and the Cathedral and we look forward to welcoming you.
Canterbury Cathedral is more than just a beautiful old building. It is a place of worship, a place to meet, a sanctuary, a haven, a celebration, a place of joy and occasionally sadness, but most of all it is alive with the people that make the Cathedral what it is today.
Detailed description:
The Cathedral is first and foremost a working, living church and place of worship. Daily worship lies at the heart of Cathedral life and every day starts with Morning Prayer and finishes with Evening Prayer. The Eucharist is also offered daily. Many other Services take place throughout the year and we warmly invite all our visitors to join us.
Music is an integral part of our worship and the Cathedral takes great pride in the music performed at its Services.
Pilgrims and visitors have made their way to Canterbury Cathedral since the Middle Ages. It remains one of the most visited places in the country, and, just as important, a living community. Visitors have always been made welcome, in the ancient tradition of Benedictine hospitality. We continue the tradition, warmly inviting everyone to share with us the beauty and the unique atmosphere of one of the great holy places of Christendom.
