Short profile:

Cambridgeshire and District Law Society (CDLS) represents most of the lawyers practising in the City of Cambridge and the surrounding region. It is a self governing association entirely independent of the national Law Society which governs the conduct of lawyers.

Detailed description:

CDLS was founded in 1871, which makes it one of the oldest local law societies in the Eastern Region. The Society is run by a committee, with a President and Vice President elected from the membership each year. In recent times they, along with an Honorary Secretary and an Honorary Treasurer, oversee the work of a part-time employed Administrator. In 1898 the Society commissioned a Badge of Office to commemorate the appointment of a local lawyer, C Berkeley-Margetts of Huntingdon, as President of the national Law Society.
