Short profile:

Rob Atthill and Tuyen Hong first met in Ho Chi Minh City (otherwise known as Saigon) and were both so excited by Vietnamese coffee that they decided to start selling it on their return to the UK.

Detailed description:

Undeterred by the difficulties of attempting to introduce an 'outlandish' new product like Vietnamese coffee to a conservative food culture, Rob and Tuyen set up their Saigon Street Cafe in street markets such as Exmouth Market, Bricklane, Whitecross and Covent Garden before finding their perfect niche at Broadway Market, Hackney. Here their cafe, complete with Vietnamese street furniture seating 60+ acts as a colourful and lively focal point.

Ca Phe VN now supply their coffee to a good number of outlets throughout the UK and even Barcelona!

As well as being a major contributor to the popularity of Vietnamese street food and café culture in the UK, Tuyen has been working on a serious cookbook of the food of the Mekong Delta, with recipes handed down through the generations of her family.

Rob has recently staged an exhibition of his photographs and installation work on the food of Vietnam, in collaboration with ‘ The Art Of Pho’ author and illustrator Julian Hanshaw.

Tuyen and Rob hope to share their love of Vietnam’s food & culture with their newly arrived daughter Lotus.
