Cloads is owned and run by Chris and Karen Cload, and their son Tom. The family's extensive experience and knowledge of the marine industry guarantees a professional and reliable service for every one of their customers. The Cload family have been an integral part of Plymouth's marine history for well over a century. The renowned Cloads chandlery was a landmark on Plymouth Barbican for over a hundred years and was most recently run by Chris' father, Charles Cload. After spending his childhood in and around the chandlery, Chris went on to start a career in boat building which has spanned over 35 years.

Having worked in one of Plymouth's major marine companies for 25 years, he went on to a period of self employment, gaining extensive experience in building, restoring and maintaining a huge variety of vessels. From building a Mirror dinghy to completely refitting and restoring a Swan 61, Chris' vast experience means you can be sure that your boat is in the best possible hands. Chris and Karen have bought, sold and restored many boats over the years and together have an excellent knowledge of all types of vessel. Their son Tom has sailed competitively since childhood, having been a part of the GB sailing team, and currently racing in many local events.

He is also experienced in yacht rigging and has owned, raced and restored boats of his own. In April 2005 the family opened Cloads boatyard, which has become a successful local business with high standards of work, a wide range of services and competitive prices. Cloads is proud to offer excellent customer care and a reliable service.
