Our aim is to produce pieces of high quality furniture for you.
Butterfly Furniture was founded in 1983 by Andrew Conning following on from a long traditional apprenticeship and training in the “North Yorkshire Furniture tradition.”
Today, Andrew and his team operate from a fully equipped purpose built workshop situated just outside the North Yorkshire Village of Whixley, in the Vale of York.
Butterfly Furniture specialises in furniture, both traditional and contemporary, made from a range of hardwoods to suit your taste and needs.
Each piece leaving the workshop has the Butterfly emblem hand carved somewhere on its surface.
We believe that our furniture is true heirloom quality and will still be in daily us by your grandchildren.

Butterfly Furniture specialises in hand building furniture to your exact requirements.
Our range of products is determined by what you want.
However we pride ourselves in our dining room and sitting room furniture such as dining table and chairs, sideboards, display cabinets, coffee tables etc.
We work in all hardwoods including oak, ash, mahogany, maple, cherry, walnut and many others.
We tend to favour oak for its timeless beauty and strength, however we will be happy to advise the most suitable wood for your own needs.
To enhance the beauty of the design we enjoy adding fine detailing such as cross banding and stringing lines in contrasting woods.
The finish applied to the furniture is all important in order to allow the natural beauty of the figure in the wood to show through. Again, we are happy to advise.
Butterfly Furniture is a professional high quality workshop that prides itself in working closely with the customer to give to them exactly what they want.
Of course, if you have only an idea or a dimension for a piece of furniture but are not sure of the design we are happy to show you previous work and make suggestions to suit your taste and budget.
We find that an initial visit to our workshop to discuss ideas, designs, materials and finishes followed by a detailed quotation complete with scale drawing is normally the first step.
After acceptance of quotation we encourage you to visit the workshop (by appointment please) to see your piece under construction.
Much of our work spans many years of building pieces for the same family in similar styles to that of the original piece. We like to foster this long term relationship.
