Burnt Mill is an inclusive comprehensive school with excellent exam results. Our value added score for 5A-C GCSES, put us in the top 25% of schools nationally last year. Our recent Ofsted inspection recognised that students make good progress when they are with us and recognised that most areas of our school are good, for example, our curriculum. Indeed, we teach everything from Spanish to Mandarin, Media to History, hairdressing to Physics. As a Performing Arts College we have particular strengths in these areas, but with GCSE English results and Maths likely to hit nearly 60% in 2010, we also know that our core subjects are getting stronger all the time.

There are a wide range of extra curricular activities available to all years both before school, during lunchtimes and after school: Breakfast Club, PE Multi fitness Club, Swimming, Girls' football, West Ham Football Training, NetballDance, Football, Netball, Rugby, Basketball, Vocalize, Premier 4s, Basketball, The Brazil Nuts Samba Band, Quiz Club, Girls' Rugby and Football, Cricket, Boys Dance, Drama Club, Homework Club, Lower School 5-a-side, Girls Only Fitness, Sports Fixtures, Hockey. We also have a wide range of trips and visits including in the last year visits to France, Barcelona (Spain), Canada, Austria (Skiing). There are also regular visits of the theatre, art galleries an exhibitions as well as reward trips to places such as Colchester Zoo, Thorpe Park or Chessington.
As a Specialist College of Performing Arts students have a unique opportunity to be involved in high quality performances and workshops throughout the year. We were the only UK school to be invited to feature on the Arts Council of Great Britain DVD and we also have the accreditation to offer the Young Peoples Arts Award Scheme.
Our own radio station, Radio Piccadilly, broadcasts in the school and students receive training in DJ Skills.
