Short profile:
This practice participates in the nGMS contract scheme and provides a full range of chronic disease management measures. These are provided by the doctors, practice nurses, health visitors and community midwives. Please contact the receptionists who will advise you about the correct appointment.
The practice nurses have expertise in travel medicine. They will offer advice on healthy travelling and arrange immunisation and malaria prevention where appropriate.
There may be a charge for some of these and you may need to go to a special centre for certain vaccinations. We are a yellow fever centre.
Detailed description:
All the doctors and practice nurses are fully qualified in family planning. We offer a range of services and appointments can be made in normal surgery hours. Women between the ages of 20 and 60 are invited by letter for a cervical smear test three-yearly as part of the national screening programme. The test is normally performed by the practice nurses. Medical examinations for special purposes such as pre-employment, fitness to travel, elderly drivers, fitness to undertake sports etc will be provided by special appointment. There will be a charge for this service, so please ask the receptionist beforehand. Our health visitor is Natalie Burns (RGN RN RM HV BSc (Health Study), F Dip Nursing/Midwifery Pgd (public health).
Natallie is supported by staff nurse Majorie Deacon. They have expertise in preventive health including routine immunisation, care and development of babies and pre-school children, care of the elderly and general health promotion. There is a regular baby clinic. The health visitors are able to see people in the surgery or at home if necessary. West Glasgow Primary Care Mental Health Team supports people aged 16 and over, who have or are at risk of developing common health problems, such as anxiety, stress and depression. If you require the services of the social work department, you will be referred to a social worker at your local office.
The practice employs a number of reception staff, led by senior receptionist Christine. All of our receptionists are here to help you. Although you will be mostly aware of them at the reception desk and on the telephone, they are responsible for a wide range of clerical duties. We would be grateful for your help in understanding the problems which they often face in trying to accommodate everyone. Be assured that any information discussed with them is kept strictly confidential.
