After 15 years in the recruitment industry, I became pretty disillusioned with the “modus operandi” of many agencies. There are those agencies who will do anything (and I mean anything!) for a fee, and this has impacted fiercely on the credibility of those recruitment professionals and consultants who are genuinely in the business of going the extra mile to help their clients to attract, select, develop and retain the best people.

This issue was beautifully summed up the other day by a client, who e-mailed me this comment after our first meeting:
In my experience, each client has unique people based challenges that requires an individually crafted solution. Surely the one size fits all full blown placement fee isn’t the answer when there are so many variables to be considered?
I believe companies need access to a range of tried and tested services that can be taken as a package or in isolation, allowing a tailored solution to be created in response to each requirement. Clients need to be able to choose which elements will add the most value - basically, what services will generate the greatest return on investment for them.
