Short profile:

At Brownbills Opticians in Ashford we aim to provide excellent patient care with an individual and professional service to all. Our optometrists provide comprehensive eye examinations to the highest standard, from a childs first eye test through to the senior years. A wide range of contact lenses are available from rigid gas permeable, to soft daily disposables and extended wear. We welcome both established contact lens wearers and those who would like to try them for the first time. Regular eye examinations ensure that you can see as well as possible and that the health of your eyes and indeed your general health is assessed.

At Brownbills we spend the time you require for your needs and tailor our examination personally to you.

Detailed description:

Our optometrists have a wealth of experience in fitting more complex contact lenses including cosmetic lenses and specialist lenses for conditions such as keratoconus and high astigmatism. Our dispensing assistants can offer a wide range of spectacle lenses to suit a variety of prescription requirements, including thinner and lighter weight lenses and the latest advances in varifocal design. We are also able to offer a varied selection of spectacle frames from designer brands through to our own popular Sight Care range. Safety spectacles, sports and leisure spectacles and sunglasses are also all available to prescription. During your eye examination we will discuss your reason for visiting and any problems you may be experiencing. Your unaided (natural) vision will be measured, refraction calculated (power in glasses) and aided visions measured (corrected) for far, near and intermediate (e.g. VDU) distances. We will assess the muscle balance of your eyes to ensure that not only do you see clearly but comfortably as well.

The health of your eyes will be assessed using different specialist instruments and include external examination (what is visible to you), internal eye examination e.g. optic nerve, blood vessels, retina and macula, and intra-ocular pressures (adults). As required your optometrist may advise additional tests e.g. visual fields, colour vision assessment, contact tonometry, digital photography, dilation, cycloplegic refraction etc. (please note some of these additional tests attract a supplementary fee and this will be explained).
