Broomhill Infant School is a small school with Foundation status based in Broomhill, Sheffield We provide early years education for up to 120 children aged from 4 to 7 years Our Victorian building houses our 4 classrooms Outside there is a play area for the Foundation Stage, two playgrounds and a beautiful award winning wildlife garden We ensure a secure environment that is welcoming to all All our children are encouraged to achieve their best within an enriching, enjoyable and relevant curriculum with creativity at its heart We learn from each other and prepare our children to develop the skills they will need for a happy and fulfilling life
Detailed description:
The aim of the school council is to involve the children in decisions that affect their lives in school. Through the school council the children are given a voice. We have eight children on the school council representing each class. New councillors are elected each term by their peers.
Each councillor has a hat and a badge to identify members and there is a school council notice board. The school council meets regularly. The children are responsible for taking the minutes and chairing the meetings.
During the past year they have discussed issues around the curriculum and how they learn best and what topics they find the most interesting. Behaviour issues are discussed and suggestions from the council put in place. In consultation with their peers they recently put together ‘The Golden Rules’ They have made decisions regarding the refurbishment of the children’s toilets and carried out surveys within the school on ideas of how to improve the outside environment.
