Short profile:
Brooklands is a Surrey County Council community day special school for children with severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties. Children are aged from 2 to 11 years.
Choosing a school for your child is always difficult. It is even more so when your child has, or may
have, special educational needs. We are aware that this can be an emotional and stressful time for
the whole family. We want you to be able to spend as much time as you need when considering
Brooklands. Hopefully this Prospectus will give you a picture of us. Do come and visit the school
and bring a friend or someone you trust so that you can talk through your impressions afterwards.
You are very welcome to come on second or third visits and to bring your child. I am also very
happy for you to ring after a visit and ask the questions you meant to ask but forgot, or to talk
through what you saw and heard and how that might affect your child.
Detailed description:
We aim to provide an education that will encourage each child to achieve and move forward. We
hope that your family will share in the enjoyment and pride that goes with that achievement and
that we can all work together towards the next goal.
All the children who come to Brooklands are special but we are aware that we may not remain the
appropriate school for all of them throughout their school career. Some pupils do move on to
other types of school, both mainstream and special. Some spend part of their time in an alternative
setting and some will remain with us.
The aim for all of them is the same - to provide a happy and challenging educational environment
and programme which recognises and builds on pupils’ abilities.
If you feel that Brooklands may be right for your child do come and visit us - you will be made very
welcome.
Brooklands is a modern, purpose built school standing in its own grounds in a quiet residential road.
The school is on one level and all the classrooms are under the same roof. This helps to ensure
safety and accessibility for all pupils. There are 9 classes and a large hall with fitted PE apparatus.
We have a Soft Play room as well as high quality indoor swimming and hydrotherapy pools. The
school has a 15 seater minibus with tail lift as well as an art room, a central resource room and a
combined library and music room. A beautiful sensory garden, challenge equipment, a large pond
and a new multi-sensory room have all been added recently to the school’s facilities. A well
equipped meeting room provides a comfortable environment for parents to meet as well as an
excellent location for courses and workshops.
