Short profile:
BILD is the British Institute of Learning Disabilities. We work to improve the lives of people with learning disabilities and family carers. To do this our work focuses on human rights, positive behaviour support, developing the workforce that provides support, and working for greater community involvement. We've chosen to do these things because that is what people and family carers tell us is most important to them.
Detailed description:
Our vision is a society where people with learning disabilities are equal citizens, with the right support to live their lives as they want to, not just accepting what is available or on offer. Our message, ‘All about people’ shows what we stand for, who we work with, and who we work for - people with learning disabilities, family carers and those who work to provide support to them both. BILD spends a lot of time talking to people with learning disabilities and family carers.
Otherwise, how do we know what needs to change? If you need to know what kind of support people and family carers need so they can live the kind of life they want, ask them, and listen carefully. People with a learning disability should be supported by a well trained and qualified workforce.
We offer employers on-site training targeted to the needs of their workforce and a Qualifications service that supports people to get accredited qualifications, through their organisations or by personal distance learning.
