Short profile:

The club is one of the oldest, largest dinghy and certainly friendliest sailing clubs in the East of England. The Club is situated on the north east coast of Essex where the Colne Estuary meets the North Sea. BSC offers sailing in sheltered waters at all times of the tide for, dinghies, catamarans, and windsurfers and caters for novices to national champions.

Complementing the terrific sailing programme is an active social scene that welcomes both new-comers and life-long members.

Detailed description:

Brightlingsea is a busy, friendly East Coast club with a great history, and unrivalled reputation for running top events and a simply fantastic stretch of water to sail on.

Our home water is the Colne/Blackwater estuary, an area that provides us with sheltered sea sailing at all states of the tides – not to mention some of the most unspoilt coastline in the South.

For racing the location is unbeatable, for pottering, its creeks and rivers offer a lifetime of hideaways to explore and wildlife to discover.

The club boasts excellent facilities – including a wide launching ramp, adjacent dinghy park, large bar and galley and spacious changing rooms.

Our south-facing terrace borders the sandy beach which provides a safe place for the little ones to play whilst mum or dad are sailing.

Racing at all level is at the heart of Brightlingsea Sailing Club. Whether you are a novice or a champion sailor our race programme has something for you.

Class races, handicap races, pursuit races, distance races, line starts, committee boat starts and series racing – races you win and races you lose.

We race from March to New Years Day two or three days a week so there is no excuse for not trying your hand if you have not raced before.

Our racing is founded on four key principles:

Fun

Well run races, good courses, a variety of race formats and plenty of banter and encouragement both on and off the water.

Fairness runs through the club from the choice of appropriate handicaps to appropriate rules observance.

Practise makes perfect and we all like to win – the club generates good club racers, national and international champions from an extensive sailing programme and “championship” style starts from the committee boat.

The club takes its duty of care seriously. Two well equipped rescue boats with radios and first aid on board accompany all races. All competitors are logged on and off the water.
