Short profile:
Brentwood Ursuline is a Catholic Voluntary Aided comprehensive school for girls aged betwen 11 to 18 which serves families in the Brentwood area. Our school has a very strong and successful Ursuline tradition that dates back to 1900. We try to be open and welcoming, reflecting the importance of the partnership between the school, family and parish in your daughters education.
Our aim as a school is to create a Christian environment in which each of our students can grow, developing a love of learning and abilities that will enable them to become confident young women. Each student's needs are recognised, staff are mindful that they will develop at different rates and for this reason there is an emphasis on the individual. However we are a learning community so the growth of the school as a community, commited to learning, is considered to be critical.
Detailed description:
Our aim is to make learning active and encourage student involvement both within lessons and extra curricular activities.
Flowing from our ethos students can take part in liturgical, justice and peace, prayer, charity, environmental, community activities and projects.
As an Arts College there are many opportunities for students in the visual and performing arts.
Art clubs
Dance clubs and companies
Drama: Clubs and performances (productions) at all key stages
Music: 3 choirs, a symphony orchestra, junior and senior wind and string bands, many ensembles (for example jazz, string, clarinet, guitar, flute, percussion, saxaphone, strings)
Students enter public speaking competitions and there are opportunities for theatre visits, concerts, language exchanges, cultural visits, ski journeys, retreats and music tours.
Some students take part in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.
Students are actively involved in the many sports clubs and teams e.g. hockey, netball, basketball, football, tennis, rounders, badminton, trampolining, swimming, aerobics and the school's athletics and cross country teams have reached the National Finals in recent years. Many other PE and sports activites are being introduced to encourage wider participation.
