BOWERHAM COMMUNITY PRIMARY SCHOOL

In addition to literacy and numeracy, we offer a wide range of activities to enhance the curriculum. For example, we employ a specialist music teacher and we have a local artist on our staff who exhibits our children's art work in a local gallery. We also teach French to our older children.

We have many extra curricular clubs for children of all ages. Examples of these clubs include chess, football, netball, karate, board games, sewing and a steel band.  Our steel band holds workshops for other schools and we also have a community steel band for pupils and adults.

Each year we organise a range of off-site visits for every class, including trips to local museums and to the nearby coastline.

At lunchtime, we employ several playworkers who show the children how to play well. There are also alternative activities for the children, other than playing outside, including a computer club.

We have a Breakfast Club that opens just after 7.30 am and an After School Club that runs until 6.00 pm.

We have good links with local secondary schools, who provide additional workshops for Year 6 pupils in mathematics, science and ICT. We also take part in many sporting tournaments and competitions, competing against other local schools.

Our New Hall complex, and four additional classrooms, were built in the 1970s. The foundation stage of the school has been completed re-developed. The nursery building had be redesigned and decorated and an excellent outdoor area created. This was developed and opened for September 2005.
