Short profile:
At Birmingham & Solihull Women’s Aid we aim to provide services that are sensitive to and meet the needs of individual women and children. We will listen to you, support you and give you time and space to decide what you want to do. We won’t judge you because of what you say or force you to make a decision you do not want to make. It is important to remember that the abuse you have experienced is not your fault. Domestic Violence can happen to any woman irrespective of her age, class, disability, ethnicity, HIV status, lifestyle, religion, sexuality or transgender status.
Detailed description:
BSWA recognises that domestic violence is a violation of women’s and children’s human rights, that it is the result of an abuse of power and control and that it is rooted in the historical status of women in the family and society, which is why we have writtenAims, Values & Principles which underpin all of our work. We are a registered charity and company limited by guarantee, managing four refuges, a counselling and family support centre, floating support and outreach services, a women’s safety unit and helpline. We have a volunteer management committee and employ both a staff team and volunteer team working across the organisation.
