Short profile:
We offer a wide variety of services to all our patients. We will usually accept any patient living in our Practice area (approx 10 mile radius). Birbeck Medical Group is made up of 8 Partners, supported by over 30 support staff. Each will treat you with respect.
We will shape our services around the needs and preferences of individual patients, their families and carers. We will not discriminate against any group. In return, we expect patients to keep appointments and treat all our staff politely and with respect.
The Practice complies with all relevant Government legislation including the Data Protection and the Freedom of Information legislation. The Practice supports the BEEP fund—a fund set up to provide equipment and training for the care of casualties involved in accidents and emergencies in the Penrith area.
Detailed description:
Our Services: Essential Services - Ill or believe themselves to be ill, Terminally ill, Suffering from a chronic disease, In need of health promotion, In need of emergency medical treatment; Additional Services - Cervical Screening, Vaccination and Immunisation (including travel), Childhood Immunisations, Childhood Health Surveillance, Maternity Medical Services, Minor Surgery, Contraceptive Services If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required. It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations.
These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Most travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because travel vaccination is not included in the services provided by the NHS and therefore is a chargeable service.
