Biopharm is able to provide high quality leeches for clinical use to hospital pharmacies, veterinary surgeries, and to medical professionals & universities for research.

Our leeches are maintained in as sterile and pure environment as is possible.

We are constantly investing in up-to-date technology, which includes high level Ultraviolet Light sterilization and Reverse Osmosis (developed by NASA).

Other technologies used are Activated Carbon absorption and foam fractionating. These processes ensure that Biopharm Leeches are of the highest Clinical Standard.

Biopharm is able to provide leeches for fishing on a seasonal basis, subject to availability, in the UK only. It is very important to note that these leeches are not suitable for medical use.

Hirudogel is a revolutionary material for keeping leeches healthy. Hirudogel™ dispenses with the need for frequent water changes by keeping the leeches in a clean well oxygenated but moist matrix. It is advisable to store your leeches in a refrigerator or a cool place.

This container is ideally suited for use with our Hirudogel™ products for transport and for longer term storage of small numbers of leeches.

We now despatch most of our UK small orders in new plastic containers with Hirudogel™. This will allow for short-term (up to 2 days) storage in a refrigerator when they arrive.

We at Biopharm are continually researching new methods of storing and transporting leeches and are confident that our new range of leech containers will suit all our customers' needs.

Whether you prefer to maintain the leeches in Water* or Hirudo/Mix gel, store them in the refrigerator or at room temperature, one of our containers will meet your requirements.

The leech was indispensable in 19th Century medicine for bloodletting, a practice believed to be a cure for anything from headache to gout. As the use of leeches increased many pharmacists became responsible for their care and dispensation.
