Short profile:
The last three years has seen the school make remarkable progress. This was achieved by the partnership between parents, pupils and the school. One of the real strengths of our school is its size. It is large enough to ensure a rich and diverse curriculum yet small enough so that every pupil is well known.
We work closely with our family of feeder schools to ensure a smooth transition between primary and secondary. All pupils coming to our school have the opportunity to visit and experience life at Big Wood School before they begin, this is a real bonus. We have a Learning Mentor who deals solely with transition issues to ensure all pupils settle well.
Detailed description:
As a Business and Enterprise College the school works with a variety of businesses and outside agencies to ensure that our pupils are fully prepared for the world beyond school. We are the lead school for Construction and the Built Environment. This will guarantee even more opportunities for our pupils.
We strongly believe ‘Every Child Matters’ and to this end we try to make sure that the curriculum meets the needs of all – from the most able to those pupils who experience some difficulties. All children have talents, we try to ensure that there are opportunities for these to develop, whatever they may be. There is a full range of extra curricular and residential activities to support this.
At Big Wood School we expect every child to do their best. We have very high standards of behaviour; people are encouraged to take responsibility for their actions so that the whole community can succeed. Visitors always comment on the calm, purposeful environment where all are welcomed. We are a real community that works hard and celebrates success together.
Our new school buildings are now open. These are state of the art and will ensure that your children will have every opportunity to develop into responsible citizens of the 21st Century, people of whom we can all be proud.
