The Bickford Arms has stood at Brandis Corner near Holsworthy since the 17th century, first as a coaching inn and now as a completely rebuilt traditional pub/restaurant offering bed and breakfast. Reduced to a shell by a disastrous fire in 2003, The Bickford Arms has been lovingly restored into a stunning mix of period features and modern-day comfort. There are five spacious letting bedrooms, all centrally heated, with bath and shower en-suite, and beautifully furnished with modern character furniture in traditional style.
Every room has a TV, and a tea and coffee maker. Each room is named after a principal family on the Bickford family tree, which dates back to the 1300s.
Warm, comfortable and relaxing, our rooms are ideal for an overnight stay or a longer weekend break.

Set in the heart of Devon’s magnificent Ruby Country, The Bickford Arms is only a short drive from Dartmoor and the fabulous beaches of North Devon and North Cornwall. It is both a well-respected community pub and a superb venue for private functions and weddings. If you want to stop over for a short break you’ll find the accommodation first class. The pub is rated AA four diamonds, so you can be sure that your stay will be comfortable and your welcome will be warm. We continue our policy of preparing all food fresh in our own kitchen. Everything is sourced from local suppliers and we take great care in maintaining high standards of quality. We serve excellent Real Ales, Draft Lagers and Beers and a Wine List to suit most tastes.
The carefully restored bar is the hub of The Bickford Arms and has a real feeling of community. Warm and welcoming, its beamed ceiling and open, wood-burning stoves give it an authentic, relaxed, ‘country’ atmosphere. The bar plays host to a whole cross-section of local people and has been nicknamed ‘Bude’s pub in the country’!On summer Sunday evenings the beer garden is the venue for our popular BBQs: ‘If the sun’s shining ... the barbecue is on!’ Enjoy quality burgers, sausages and steaks, all sourced from local butchers.In the summertime, we also serve traditional Devon cream teas, with real clotted cream from local farms. We stock a good range of beers and lagers, and have an excellent selection of wines. We are a real ale pub, stocking the local ales and speciality brews.
We have a brilliant menu for bar meals: eat at the tables or more formally in the Dunsland Dining Room. And don’t forget to check the Specials Board for some of our kitchen recommendations. The atmosphere at The Bickford Arms is relaxed and hospitable, and our friendly and helpful bar staff will do all they can to make sure you enjoy your visit. We have a selection of menus and packages and try to suit most budgets.
