Short profile:

As Solicitors we regard our primary function as acting as a family friend to whom our clients can turn for advice or help - a Legal Adviser.

There are two main types of legal work: Contentious, which means Court work of one sort or another and Non-Contentious where there is no dispute but legal documents need to be prepared, procedures followed and advice given. Examples of Contentious work are divorce and marriage problems, accident claims, breach of contract, unfair dismissal and redundancy.

Examples of non-contentious are the purchase and sale of houses and businesses (and indeed flats, shops, warehouses and land generally), tenancy agreements and contracts of employment, change of name deeds, administration of deceased persons' estates, wills, trusts and settlements.

Detailed description:

Some clients with limited means will be eligible for public funding and this is a service we have always been pleased to provide. The Government, through the Legal Services Commission, has sought to restrict the number of firms who can provide public funding by granting a franchise to those who undergo strict quality controls on an ongoing basis. Bemrose and Ling were awarded a franchise by the Legal Services Commission in February 1999 and this will enable us to continue to undertake this work.

We pride ourselves on providing a personal and effective service throughout. We represent both individuals and commercial clients in all aspects of Litigation.

Litigation by its nature can often be stressful and complicated and should never be entered into lightly. Our experienced staff offer a friendly and efficient personal service to guide and help clients through the process.

Unfortunately, in some circumstances Litigation cannot be avoided. In these circumstances we offer specialist advice and assistance from the pre-litigation process through the entire Court process to enforcement and Debt Recovery where necessary.

Our aim is to obtain swift and cost effective resolution for our clients in all cases.

Cases can be funded in a variety of ways including private client, fixed fee, No Win No Fee, insurance and in some cases public funding is available. Please contact a member of our Litigation Department further regarding funding methods.

When any relationship, married or otherwise, breaks down there are considerable tensions between the parties involved, which can cause them to become very emotional. It is important that when advice is given this does not worsen the situation. The Bemrose & Ling Family Law team is both experienced and sympathetic to family problems. All situations are approached to see if agreement can be reached on an amicable basis, and if so, that is the approach that will be taken.
