Belfast Migrant Centre
The Belfast Migrant Centre is a consortium of UNISON, the Irish Congress of Trade Unions and NICEM under the Welcome House Project. The overall aim is to tackle racism and eliminate barriers against new and settled migrant communities in NI. The Belfast Migrant Centre provides a one-stop shop service with bi-lingual staff to eliminate language barriers. We will help those in need by providing outreach services and responding to the needs of victims of racial harassment and those in crisis situations. Belfast Migrant Centre advisors can assist in claiming your entitlements.
Based on the information regarding your household and earnings as well as other details (i. regarding health issues) they can make an initial assessment of the entitlements. If the assistance is needed to lodge an appeal following a refusal of the benefit the advisors can assist. Whenever representation in the Social Security Tribunal is required the Belfast Migrant Centre cannot assist, but we can refer our clients to institutions who provide tribunal representation.
Our role is solely to help in contact with those organisations where there is a language barrier or the issue is complex and requires our expertise. You will be expected to be in regular contact with the advisor and provide all the information required for the advisor to assist with the claim. Most of the forms that you will need to obtain are available online and can be accessed via our Important Links section.
