Bartley Green Medical Practice has its origins in a modest health centre opened in 1977. This stood where our current car park is, and was demolished to make way for our new practice building in 1999. The present building was opened by the Lord Mayor in July 2000. It offers us more consulting rooms, more clinical areas, better accommodation for our health visitors and midwives, more administration space and enhanced facilities for teaching. Since the introduction of the new General Medical Services contract for practices, the practice provides core services and a range of direct and national enhanced services for patients.
The practice building is open Monday - Friday from 8.15am - 6.15pm. It is closed all afternoon on Wednesday from 1.15pm. We will occasionally close at lunchtimes for staff training and practice meetings.

The ancient art of acupuncture originates from China but is now practised in many parts of the world as an alternative therapy. Acupuncture involves the insertion of the tips of needles into the skin at specific points to treat various disorders by stimulating the nerve impulses. The needles - usually disposable - vary in length, width and shape of head. As the basis of acupuncture, Shen Nung, the father of Chinese medicine, theorised over 4000 years ago, that the body had an energy force running through it. Illness results when the energy pathways become obstructed or unbalanced.
Acupuncture can restore this balance. Acupuncture can successfully treat: Lower backache, Arthritis, Headaches, Muscle spasms. ELECTRO-ACUPUNCTURE: This involves small electrical impulses through the acupuncture needles, generally used for pain relief or prevention. In China it is a common method of analgesia.
The ear has a rich nerve and blood supply and has many acupuncture points which correspond to many parts and organs of the body. Ear acupuncture can be used to treat: Obesity, Alcoholism, Drug addiction.
