Short profile:
This Service is part of Together’s ‘Barnsley Scheme’ which has developed since the Community-support Service was set up. This was in 1994, when six staff offered local people with mental health problems support in their own homes. Today the Scheme employs 24 staff who provide around 2000 hours of support to 150 people every month. The range of services now includes: -working with people in their own homes and elsewhere in the community, providing both practical help with daily-living skills and emotional support; respite care for carers; supporting people with mental health problems who have been or are involved in the criminal-justice system; a drop-in and social club, the Arena.
Detailed description:
The entire service is managed from a busy office in Barnsley, and supports people in the town and surrounding area. Most referrals for people wanting to use the service come through the local community mental health team. In addition to the Community-support Service, the Scheme is divided into: -Barnsley Respite Service, Arena Drop-in Service, Barnsley Court Liaison Home Support Service, Barnsley Supporting People Service. Together in Barnsley is a committed member of the local Participation Process.
All Barnsley Together services aim to be service-user-led, and are evaluated annually. Independent evaluations are carried out by The Clients Alliance. Barnsley Community-support Service provides practical support to people in their own homes.
Referrals come from Care Coordinators as part of the care programme approach, and service-users are matched up with a trained Support Worker who will help them meet the goals set out in their care plan. Respite Services enable carers to take a break while the service-user has one-to-one support.
