Short profile:

information Barming Primary School, sponsored by Kent Community Network and kent County Council.

Detailed description:

All children learn to play ocarina, recorder, violin &, if parents wish, other instruments. There are opportunities to learn to play chess & participate in local & national congresses. French is provided for children in Years 5 & 6. We are exploring ways of introducing a modern language at a younger age. We link closely with local secondary schools to provide enrichment to our maths, PE & ICT curriculum.

Sporting activities are a strength at Barming. Children participate in football, tag rugby, cricket, netball, athletics and basketball. In the last term of Year 5 children are trained to be Play Leaders. When they enter Year 6 the skills they have gained enable them to lead the play of the other children.

Visits to places of interest & interesting visitors from the community also ensure relevance & meaning. Older children have responsibilities in school, ranging from helping the younger children to setting up computers at the start of the day. Year 6 children participate in a week-long residential visit to an activity centre. They try a wide range of outdoor pursuits which they may wish to develop later in life
