In November 2008 I was made treasurer of the local branch of a national organisation. Upon getting all the paperwork and checking the balances with the banks I got all sorted out except for Barclays Bank in Kirkham, near Preston in Lancashire. I was not an authorised signatory but had sufficient evidence to prove I was the new treasurer and all I requested was confirmation of the balances I had from the statements - I didn’t request any transactions be carried out but a jobsworth at the bank refused to confirm anything or even help in any way such as advise. Around March 2009 I decided on reforming the accounts since there were too many of them and with all the red tape for proving who one is etc. for each of the banks it was easier to consolidate them all into one, so two of the signatories signed a letter to the manager at Barclays requesting that the accounts be closed and a cheque for the total amount be sent to the new treasurer which would be paid into the new account which I am an official signatory for. By late summer time Barclays hadn’t even replied to anyone - not even the signatory who wrote the letter, so the president of the branch visited Barclays in Kirkham to get the accounts closed and was told that a letter needed to be sent from the treasurer. So I wrote Barclays a letter requesting closure and a cheque but still haven’t heard anything and the manager continually ignores all my correspondence. The manager cannot refuse to honour requests made by signatories who clearly stated that I am the new treasurer and that closure of the accounts was requested with a cheque for the total amount to be sent to me. The money belongs to the organisation and the authorised signatories requested to close the accounts and have a cheque sent to me. This manager is a coward behind closed doors - don’t trust him or her.2/8/2010 5:47:45 PM

    • John R Jones: The manager got in touch after I wrote to the local MP Michael Jack and the problem has been resolved. He was most apologetic so it seems like it was down to some inefficiency in the communications section of the company.
