Short profile:
The school is situated in the heart of the Peak District. It is a modern two storey building on a large site. The rear of the school has stunning views over the hills and valleys around Bakewell. Outside the school is a hard play area with space for two netball courts, a very large grassed area on which are two football pitches and a running track. The rest of the school grounds are grassed and the children play out on this during the summer months.
There is a small toy library in the grounds for children to borrow toys from at lunchtime. The school has accessible facilities. We are able to host the Bakewell and District School Sports events. There are six classrooms, one of which is used as an ICT suite and library, with shared work areas, toilets and cloakrooms between them.
Each classroom has an interactive whiteboard and data projector. We have a large hall that is also used as a gym and the dining room.
Detailed description:
The staff here pride themselves on their willingness to listen to children and to respond to their individual needs. The children, through circle time and the School Council, are given a voice and influence directly the running of the school.
I make sure that I personally get to know each child and they know they can come to me directly if something is bothering them or they have a good idea.
Children cannot learn unless they are comfortable and happy and to this end we aim to provide a supportive and caring environment in which your child will flourish.
I believe that good education is a partnership between the school, the child and parents. This is why we aim to keep you informed about all aspects of school life. We send home notes with the children, we produce a monthly newsletter and we have a new website that we are currently learning to use. I actively encourage parents and carers to contact the school should they have queries or suggestions.
At BMJS we believe that children should have the opportunity to participate in activities that they enjoy. We encourage all children to become involved in clubs and teams and encourage an atmosphere of good sportsmanship. We like winning but we know we also need to learn how to lose gracefully! The following pages show some of the activities we have been involved in this year.
