Baily Garner has been actively involved in conservation projects over the life of the practice, offering a comprehensive range of services to care for historic and listed buildings. Our conservation team is headed up by one of our associate partners who holds the RICS post-graduate diploma in building conservation. We fully understand the role designers and consultants have to play in the retention and sensitive improvements to sustain the life of any particular building. We are used to working with English Heritage, local authorities and similar bodies and understand their requirements in undertaking conservation work. We have worked on a whole wide range of properties from housing through to libraries, schools, churches and museums all of which have a conservation listing whether that being within a conservation area right through to Grade I listed buildings.

Chartered Building Surveying has been at the heart of the practice's activities since we first started out back in 1976.
Under the banner of 'traditional' building surveying, our projects range in size and complexity from minor adaptations, major alterations, cyclical planned maintenance, stock improvement and asset management, through to large scale refurbishment. Our building surveyors are able to bring to these schemes a broad knowledge of key areas including defect analysis, construction design and detailing, statutory planning & building control processes and building conservation.
Baily Garner is therefore able to offer a full service from the inception of a project through to its completion and beyond, including feasibility studies, advising on procurement methods, design and specification, tendering, contract administration and advising on whole life-cycle maintenance. We also regularly act as Party Wall surveyors where related boundary structure issues arise.
Although today around half of our technical staff are building surveyors, this core discipline also acts as an essential resource across our range of other activities. Chartered Building Surveyors within the practice frequently lead multidiscliplinary teams delivering major newbuild, masterplanning and regeneration programmes. Many senior staff with building surveying backgrounds have expanded their experience and qualifications into Project Management, Partnering and Value Management.
