Short profile:
AWA Architects is a design led practice whose main aim is the provision of creative, high quality and cost effective architecture. We have a concern for efficient and sustainable architectural design and we are aware of both the public and cultural context in which our buildings come into being.
Our Practice in its present form was established in 1982, however the practice has roots in the North West of Ireland going back to 1950. We are based in the Strand Road in Londonderry and have three directors, Ken Bond, Liam McCaul and Donal Coyle with eight support staff.
Detailed description:
We have a long and established track record of providing facilities and specialist housing for disabled people.
We can also undertake audits on new and existing buildings to ensure compliance with the requirement of the Disabled Discrimination Act.
We have experience of working on football grounds and greyhound tracks with full spectator facilities, press and television coverage. We have also designed Golf Clubs, Rugby Clubs, GAA grounds and specialist synthetic running tracks, also with facilities for full television coverage
Public and private swimming pools, fitness suites saunas and steam rooms.
We act as Project Supervisors under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations and have wide experience of a wide variety of projects.
Our practice has completed a number of stone restoration projects where natural stone has been sourced for repairs and intricate carvings and natural lime mortar mixes have been matched. We also have experience of stone consolidation and indent repairs. We have overseen the repair, restoration and cleaning of fine stained glass windows, natural slate roofs and original wrought iron gates and railings.
