Short profile:
Asset Inspection and Material Services (A.I.M.S.) was set up in 2004 to provide a mechanical inspection service for tanks, vessels, pipework and all process equipment. Our extensive laboratory facilities provide materials testing and investigation into corrosion and other potential failure modes of process equipment.
Additionally our scanning electron microscope facility can be utilised to investigate process efficiencies and determine elemental compositions of products or deposits.
We provide professional and flexible inspection services delivered by a broadly talented team capable of performing multi-faceted tasks through a single Engineer. We have tailored our business to suit the needs of our clients in negating the often very expensive and inefficient requirement for numerous working groups and interfaces.
Detailed description:
AIMS has available a wide range of portable inspection equipment for the evaluation of materials degradation on-site. AIMS background in the application of inspection techniques is at the leading edge.
The use of the most appropriate techniques are evaluated against the potential risks of failure, consequences, degradation type and cost criteria involved, specifically:
Evaluation of the most likely degradation mechanisms given the materials of construction and process fluids/environments, so that the appropriate inspection technique can be employed.
Reduction of the requirement for vessel entry where possible by selection of the optimum inspection regime to obviate the requirement for possible exposure of personnel to risk.
Use of the latest Risk Based Inspection methodologies so that the most critical items of equipment can be identified and the most appropriate inspection techniques and frequencies employed to assess the potential degradation mechanisms.
Extensive knowledge and experience of non-metallic materials on-site evaluation including techniques appropriate to solid plastic and GRP equipment as well as coatings and linings.
Equipment for the evaluation of potential degradation mechanisms of fire protection coatings such as “carbonation” of vermiculite cement based systems.
AIMS have over 25 years experience of specifying, service evaluation of and failure analysis of a wide range of materials of construction used to contain some of the most aggressive chemicals handled in Chemical Plant.
As well as carbon and stainless steels, extensive experience has been gained with the more Corrosion Resistant Alloys used to handle some of the more demanding applications.
Linings and coating have an important role in being available to protect steel used in demanding applications, usually on a large scale as in storage tanks, to bring costs down to a reasonable scale compared with more expensive metallic alloys.
