Short profile:

ARDGOWAN HOUSE, built in 1889, is a family run Hotel and has been offering accommodation since 1918, making it one of the oldest such establishments in Edinburgh.

The interior of ARDGOWAN has many interesting architectural features, including:

Original hand-painted wallpaper in the main hall

Sanded floors, doors and staircases

A short bridge on the top floor linking the two halves of the house

A minstrel gallery, also on the top floor, for would-be musicians (complemented nicely by the antique 1890 Collard & Collard grand piano in the dining room)

Please look around our website for further information of the facilities we can offer, for details of the local area (including links to some local interests and amenities that Edinburgh has to offer), or simply contact us today to find out how we can be of service.

Detailed description:

Our list of facilities and features at Ardgowan House Hotel is full and extensive, catering for all your needs during your stay. Here are just a few of the highlights.

We have 7 rooms. Two are doubles and the rest are triples and quads, allowing us to accomodate most parties.

In the bedrooms, some of which are en-suite, the decor and soft furnishings are all Laura Ashley, and the furniture is hand-made and is french-polished by our own family business.

Edinburgh is a beautiful City enhanced by its many open green spaces. It boasts a rich and historic past, and hosts to contrasting towns - the old town and new town - at its heart.

A wealth of tourist attractions, museums and galleries, as well as the prestigious Arts Festival held in August each year, are just some of the reasons why visitors return year after year.

The City has grown up around a series of volcanic hills, and consequently one of the most attractive features of the central area is the number of spectacular vistas, each one seemingly more breathtaking than the last as they open up to surprise and delight the viewer.

By far the best way to discover Edinburgh is on foot, particularly in the Old Town where guided tours are available down the famous 'Royal Mile' from the stunning Edinburgh Castle (home of the royal family whenever they visit Edinburgh) to Holyrood Palace. In the past, this street was lined with merchants selling their wares; today it is still a buzzing central point for cafe society, shops and street activities.
